Show Up Anyway!
What if Jackie Chan decided to stay behind the scenes? How would the world be if he didn’t use his voice or gifts on the screen? The purpose is not for you to compare yourself to him, but to zoom in on how he didn’t allow his accent to get roles in movies. In order to be great at anything, we must set our fears and myths on fire and . You can’t tip toe around being spooked about people hearing your make mistakes; You need to silence the voices in your head and speak English anyway.
As an adult, I chose to keep myself quiet. I was silent at most events and chose to stay out of the spotlight. I chose to hide my speaking skills and underestimated the power my voice had. What changed? I got deathly ill for 6 years. And a year or two before I learned I would live, I asked myself, “What if I choose to believe I have something to say and stopped watching people use their gifts from the sidelines?” What if I chose to believe God gave me a gift like He did for others?
Once I realized I don’t have forever to live, I came to the conclusion tomorrow isn’t promised—I had to show up no matter how embarrassed I was, no matter if the most intelligent person in my world saw me. I promised God if He kept me alive I would utilize the gifts He gave me.
That’s why you see me showing up with mistakes and all. I recommend you do the same.
I am being pulled out of my old of living and being pulled into something much bigger. I used to find it hard to be on camera and was afraid to speak because I knew I needed to work my skills. Oftentimes, I take long breaks because I’m being stretched emotionally! It takes time to process, it takes boldness, it takes courage. It’s energy to show up online.
Everyone you see online has chosen to plow through their disbeliefs and do the best they can. And even if you aren’t online, you still can hide your gifts. But don’t do it. You’ll be much happier if you do what your heart is yearning for.
Other people are tied to your gift, your lessons you’ve caught on to in life. They’re meant to be shared with others, not to keep to yourself.
